Service at the Hospital

 

Here is a picture of President Nelson Mandela with a child.  We have enjoyed doing service for a young sister that lives in Elder and Sister Johnson's branch an hour south of Johannesburg.


Here is a picture of the 'care package' we took over to Thegofatso Mkhandwane - the young mother in the Ronald McDonald House at the hospital.  She was very appreciative.  The baby's had a little bit of a struggle, some infection and the incision opening up.  Both are doing better now - baby's name is Masego - means Lucky!  Beautiful little girl!
Last time we visited - Thegofatso was working in the kitchen - preparing food for for other mothers who were staying there.

Senior Couples Give Thanks!

On Saturday, November 27th, all the senior couples got together for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner.  So much delicious food and great company!  We made stuffing, deviled eggs and pumpkin cheesecake for our contributions.  Room full of such great senior missionaries!!   Darling Lilly, sleeping on Thanksgiving Day - Sam wanted us to see her cute dress!!   The Mission sewing machine - passed around from senior sister to senior sister - I used it for a week and then it wouldn't work!  We are taking it to a shop for repairs and Elder Smith bought me a new one - Singer basic - Merry Christmas to me! Fun African fabric I found at a local shop - will make great bowl cozies!  We found these cows on the side of the road near our Chapel in Kwa Thema!!  There were these pretty yellow Lily's also on our drive to church.

Area Office

  Sunday October 31, Elder and Sister Elggren drove us to our assigned ward - the Kwa Thelma 2nd ward.  It was Stake Conference and both wards met together - great talks!  Wonderful to meet the people we will be serving on Sundays.  It is about a 40 minute drive from the city - delightful children. The Temple is right next to the Area Offices - all are in a park like setting - an old estate that the Church purchased. View from behind the temple. Little lizard on the post of the steps into the office!   Part of the Office buildings - underground parking door in the middle of the picture. The door to our department. Desk in front is Elder Smith's - mine just behind it.  Further on is the Humanitarian couple's office. Interesting poster in another hallway.

Our Self Reliance Office

  Brother Philip showing Elder Smith some of the places we have Pathway students.  He has traveled extensively all over the world. He is really a wonderful manager - his office is right next to ours.  This is a poster we have been working on - the senior couples will take it to their individual chapels this weekend and ask the Bishop/Branch President if they can post it on the bulletin board...hopefully! Elder Smith hard at work! Copy machine in the background - Display behind it...for projects. Sister Smith hardly working!!   Both of our desks - it is nice to be working on this mission together.
