Happenings in South Africa

There is a big African Trade Market called Irene's about 35 minutes away from Johannesburg.  It is open only twice a month - the first Saturday and last Saturday of each month.  Saturday, July 30, we invited the Candlands to go with us.  We found the Perkins and Watsons there and we all had a great time.  Here is Sister Watson and Elder Perkins enjoying lunch - see that big platter in front?
Elder Smith bought me an African Apron like these - this is the lady who makes them - they are reversible and I like the bright colors!
On our walks in the mornings we have noticed this plant budding and getter ready to bloom - this morning it was blooming!  The picture doesn't do it justice - it is bright orange!
This big Bird of Paradise plant is on the grounds of the first chapel built in Johannesburg.  The flowers are so pretty, and it's fun for us to know Heidi and Stefan have them in Hawaii!
I've sent postcards with the African Big Five animals on them - they also have the little five, and the ugly five.  We found these pins of the Big Five Bums in a store - didn't want to spend money on them so I took a picture to laugh at!!
July 26th was Elder Forsyth's 72nd birthday!  They brought Birthday cake to the Canteen for all the seniors to enjoy.  His wife's birthday was Feb. 2, 2022 and they brought cakes then also!  Wonderful couple.
Sister Forsyth cutting the cakes - Chocolate, Carrot, and Red Velvet!  Notice the happy birthday plates and napkins!  The Forsyths are leaving in September and we will really miss them.
This is in the middle of the small park that we usually walk through in the mornings. A young child has made this a Fairy Garden1  there are silver bells strung in the trees, small statues and houses around the plants...so fun!  I'm happy no one has taken the trinkets!
This is a yummy salad that the chef made for us at the Walston's flat.  He lost his cooking job and is now a security guard - they were talking to him and he made three couples dinner for double his salary at guarding!  It was pretty good - the salad was better then the fettuccini!  Elder Walston made a flyer and invited the other senior couples to have him make dinner for them!
We get several people a week come into our office.  Most have come to the temple and we are so near they come down to see if we can help them with problems in their Pathway programs. This young couple are both Pathway students - the brother had completed Pathway and needed us to print his certificate.  On the students portal it has a place for them to print - so many of our students have to pay for a printer.  Here in the office we can print on cardstock paper and laminate also.  When his certificate of completion was ready he had the biggest smile!  Elder Smith even said - we need a picture of your family. We love serving our brothers and sisters here.

Sister Goodson helping me hold up the small quilt we tied for Elder and Sister Dube - they love it! Thanks to Lindsey for sending me the blue rickrack!!
