Happenings around town!

 

This is one of two emergency lanterns we have in the flat.  This one is plugged in and when the power goes out - it turns on!  Both are led lights and very bright!  We can read and function with them in our dark flat!  
Just about a month ago I noticed the 'service' doors in the hallway of our apartment house.  This is the front door of Elder and Sister Walston - 206. You can see to the left of their front door - the service door.
This is our front door - the service door has been remodeled and we have a cupboard in the kitchen on the other side of it. 
Another flat like ours with the service door next to the front door - behind the gate. One day as we walked passed the door was open and it was directly into the kitchen ...and it occurred to me that it was the door that the black maids had to use to work for the family!!  
Down the hallway on the other side there are larger apartments - they have a service door opening out into the hallway. 
So happy that the laws that decreed such nonsense are gone - - way too late!  
On a much happier note - this is the Edgemont 4th ward Sacrament Meeting on July 10, 2022.  Eli and Keenyn are playing an amazing duet. 
We really appreciate Heather sending us the link so we could watch - both did very well.  We also liked the marco polo of them practicing because we could hear the piano better!  Music is great!

Senior Couples Give Thanks!

On Saturday, November 27th, all the senior couples got together for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner.  So much delicious food and great company!  We made stuffing, deviled eggs and pumpkin cheesecake for our contributions.  Room full of such great senior missionaries!!   Darling Lilly, sleeping on Thanksgiving Day - Sam wanted us to see her cute dress!!   The Mission sewing machine - passed around from senior sister to senior sister - I used it for a week and then it wouldn't work!  We are taking it to a shop for repairs and Elder Smith bought me a new one - Singer basic - Merry Christmas to me! Fun African fabric I found at a local shop - will make great bowl cozies!  We found these cows on the side of the road near our Chapel in Kwa Thema!!  There were these pretty yellow Lily's also on our drive to church.

Area Office

  Sunday October 31, Elder and Sister Elggren drove us to our assigned ward - the Kwa Thelma 2nd ward.  It was Stake Conference and both wards met together - great talks!  Wonderful to meet the people we will be serving on Sundays.  It is about a 40 minute drive from the city - delightful children. The Temple is right next to the Area Offices - all are in a park like setting - an old estate that the Church purchased. View from behind the temple. Our Self Reliance Office

  Brother Philip showing Elder Smith some of the places we have Pathway students.  He has traveled extensively all over the world. He is really a wonderful manager - his office is right next to ours.  This is a poster we have been working on - the senior couples will take it to their individual chapels this weekend and ask the Bishop/Branch President if they can post it on the bulletin board...hopefully! Elder Smith hard at work! Copy machine in the background - Display behind it...for projects. Sister Smith hardly working!!   Both of our desks - it is nice to be working on this mission together.
