Senior Missionaries Dinner June 25th, 2022
Each month, on the fourth Saturday - the senior couples enjoy dinner together. Each couple is assigned a month and you only do it once- usually - on your whole mission. We were assigned to do June. When I asked senior sisters what they thought about when I said "June" all four said Weddings! So a few months ago I began planning our Celebration to Marriage - evening. As we were finishing setting up - Elder Smith noticed the sunset out of the window - beautiful world we live in.
This is the Ruth Room. We have conferences here, Monday Staff Devotionals, Zone Conference, etc. We also use it for our senior dinners. We borrowed the white table cloths from the the area kitchen - and I insisted on china plates - real glasses, but Elder Smith got his way with heavy duty plastic silverware!
A little closer look - we found pink rose paper napkins - the flowers were on sale - great since we needed them for all the tables. We made nut cups with white mints, mixed nuts and M & M's - standing for Mr. and Mrs.!!
I wanted a wedding backdrop for pictures - I looked online and got several ideas. I followed Scarlett O'Hara's idea in Gone With the Wind - and used my curtains! The panel was in our computer room - I attached it to the white board. We found fake flowers at a 5 and 10 cent like store and I'm proud of how we wired them together!!
This is the National Flower of South Africa - the giant Protea. They happened to be on sale also - only 50 Rand - about 6 dollars. We bought two of them for the food table.
I asked the other senior couples to send me one of their wedding pictures and I would enlarge it and print it for the celebration. A few sent them right away, most waited until the last week! Two sent engagement pictures, one was a second marriage and they sent a picture of them with all their grandchildren at the time! One sweet couple asked me if I had gotten theirs - I said yes but confused them with someone else, they are the Watsons, we have the Walters, and the Walstons! So that night when Elder and Sister Watson came to the party - they asked where their picture was - I took five minutes and printed it out, added their names and attached it to the others at the left. I felt really bad but they were understanding - it is hard to have an old brain! I had one bunch of fake roses left for the top of the easel were we displayed the pictures.
Closer looks at all our young, beautiful and handsome selves!!
Everyone enjoyed seeing these. Elder and Sister Cleverly - the couple on the far left, met on LDS Singles.com! When they were dating, she came to Salt Lake to tend two granddaughters while the parents were at dinner. Elder Cleverly came to visit and met the little girls. When the parents came home they asked the girls what did they thing of Grandma's boyfriend? The two year old didn't have an opinion but the four year old said: "He was really old and had a lot of skin on top of his head!"
