September Events

 

Sunday, September 10th, George and Lori Humbert had their mission homecoming.  Dennis and Patti Perkins, served with us in South Africa.  Humbert's were in charge of communications, Perkin's were mental health missionaries. We sure grew to love these wonderful people!

September 14, we drove to Hyrum for Anna's tennis Senior Event!  She was honored along with 7 other girls - she has came a long way in her social life and tennis playing abilities!  It was fun to be with Kate and Ben and watch her play.  She did well - didn't win but is still a WINNER to us! 


Friday, Sept. 15 was Harold's 81st birthday!  We were on our way to St. George and Polly asked us to stop in Orem and have breakfast with them...Surprise Birthday Party for Grandpa!  Polly, Chris and Kyle Williams,  Kacey and Shelby, Sydney Fromm, some Kroeber's!  Delicious food and great company.
Chris and Polly gave Harold a John Deere toy tractor set, and these balloons to celebrate!  We love our family. 

Wonderful people to celebrate a birthday with!!  Thanks Polly for arranging this!  


Saturday September 24th we were part of a Stake Primary program.  We are the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus.  We memorized a short script and repeated it four times with different groups of Primary children.  It was amazing and delightful - to pretend we walked and talked with the Savior!!

Area Office

  Sunday October 31, Elder and Sister Elggren drove us to our assigned ward - the Kwa Thelma 2nd ward.  It was Stake Conference and both wards met together - great talks!  Wonderful to meet the people we will be serving on Sundays.  It is about a 40 minute drive from the city - delightful children. The Temple is right next to the Area Offices - all are in a park like setting - an old estate that the Church purchased. View from behind the temple. Little lizard on the post of the steps into the office!   Part of the Office buildings - underground parking door in the middle of the picture. The door to our department. Desk in front is Elder Smith's - mine just behind it.  Further on is the Humanitarian couple's office. Interesting poster in another hallway.

Great granddaughter Clementine Jo Romberg - born December 29, 2023

Maddie and Dane had their little girl on December 29, 2023.  What a wonderful way to end the year!! Clementine Jo Romberg - 7 pounds, 21 inches - PERFECT! Maddie is wonder woman - she had the baby at home!  With a midwifes' help!  Yikes!!  She's tired. Beautiful - just from Heaven!!  Emily came over from Denver to be with them a week.  Then Kurt drove the rest over to pick her up and meet darling Clementine!

Happenings in South Africa

  There is a big African Trade Market called Irene's about 35 minutes away from Johannesburg.  It is open only twice a month - the first Saturday and last Saturday of each month.  Saturday, July 30, we invited the Candlands to go with us.  We found the Perkins and Watsons there and we all had a great time.  Here is Sister Watson and Elder Perkins enjoying lunch - see that big platter in front?   Elder Smith bought me an African Apron like these - this is the lady who makes them - they are reversible and I like the bright colors!   On our walks in the mornings we have noticed this plant budding and getter ready to bloom - this morning it was blooming!  The picture doesn't do it justice - it is bright orange!   This big Bird of Paradise plant is on the grounds of the first chapel built in Johannesburg.  The flowers are so pretty, and it's fun for us to know Heidi and Stefan have them in Hawaii!  I've sent postcards with...
