Saturday Adventure

 

On Saturday afternoon we drove about 15 miles out of town to the Monte Casino - a big resort place.  One of the other couples told us they had a good Mexican food restaurant - well - "the best Mexican I have had here."  This is my place - pork enchilada, served with rice and beans (small cups!  Elder Smith had pork and cheese quesadillas - the food was okay - definitely not La Casita!!!
There were about 50 restaurants - several Italian, some Greek, some Chinese, and this one Mexican.  It cost 10R just to park and walk around - I'm not sure I'll get Elder Smith to go back!  It was pretty crowded on a Saturday afternoon.
One shop was about geological things - liked this display.

This big fountain was in the middle of the Casino - see the stage in the background?  It was fun to walk around - we never got into the slot machines and gaming area - too smokey!

Area Office

  Sunday October 31, Elder and Sister Elggren drove us to our assigned ward - the Kwa Thelma 2nd ward.  It was Stake Conference and both wards met together - great talks!  Wonderful to meet the people we will be serving on Sundays.  It is about a 40 minute drive from the city - delightful children. The Temple is right next to the Area Offices - all are in a park like setting - an old estate that the Church purchased. View from behind the temple. Great granddaughter Clementine Jo Romberg - born December 29, 2023

Maddie and Dane had their little girl on December 29, 2023.  What a wonderful way to end the year!! Clementine Jo Romberg - 7 pounds, 21 inches - PERFECT! Maddie is wonder woman - she had the baby at home!  With a midwifes' help!  Yikes!!  She's tired. Beautiful - just from Heaven!!  Emily came over from Denver to be with them a week.  Then Kurt drove the rest over to pick her up and meet darling Clementine!

Happenings in South Africa

  There is a big African Trade Market called Irene's about 35 minutes away from Johannesburg.  It is open only twice a month - the first Saturday and last Saturday of each month.  Saturday, July 30, we invited the Candlands to go with us.  We found the Perkins and Watsons there and we all had a great time.  Here is Sister Watson and Elder Perkins enjoying lunch - see that big platter in front?   Elder Smith bought me an African Apron like these - this is the lady who makes them - they are reversible and I like the bright colors!   On our walks in the mornings we have noticed this plant budding and getter ready to bloom - this morning it was blooming!  The picture doesn't do it justice - it is bright orange!   This big Bird of Paradise plant is on the grounds of the first chapel built in Johannesburg.  The flowers are so pretty, and it's fun for us to know Heidi and Stefan have them in Hawaii!  I've sent postcards with...
