Elephant Sanctuary

On Saturday, April 23, we went with the Sims, Goodsons, and Candlands to visit an Elephant Santuary. It was about an hour and a half northwest of Johannesburg. Elder and Sister Sims and the Goodsons drove in their car - the Candlands came with us.  Elder Smith always likes to drive!!
Elephants eat a lot each day - and poop even more!!!  That's nature, right?
All of these interpretative signs were helpful to read before interacting with the elephants.
We like it when we don't just view the animals - but learn about them also!  Must be the 'teacher' in our souls!
We can learn a lot from the habits and events in the animal kingdom...but I like my sunscreen!
They had fake tusks for us to learn from - our guide said the real thing would be stolen in a day!
They are huge!  and after reading "The Elephant Whisper" - they are so smart!  They have a wonderful sense of smell - not so much eyesight or earing!

African elephant - the largest in the world!
Our guide was Sam!  I took this picture when the monkey in the background came over to see what was happening!! He was very good - knowledgeable and funny!
This monkey was waiting for us at the gate!
We were happy to see restrooms at the end of our almost 2 hour drive!  Fun to have the signs say: Lady Lemurs, and Baboons - didn't have to say Male right?
