Senior Christmas Party!

 

We held our Senior Missionaries Christmas Party on Saturday, December 18th.  Everyone signed up to bring food and Elder and Sister Cleverly were in charge of games and decorations.  Several of the couples will have family visiting for Christmas and some will be working so we celebrated early!
Elder Swift - in the middle of the picture - his wife with short gray hair sitting opposite him.  He is our Area Medical Director and an OB-Gyn doctor - practicing in the Ogden area.  He knows President Lamb, our Mission President in Russia! Elder Swift has meet a couple of the young elders who he delivered in Ogden!!  He keeps us informed of the status of covid in our area.  Elder Cleverly in the suspenders in the front - he turned 80 years old last month - amazing!
Pretty table decorations - Elder and Sister Forsyth at the left - they have peen Pathway missionaries and are coming to dinner tomorrow night to help train us on how to do it!  Further down the table and across it, are the Gordon and June Smiths.  They will be going home in January.  At the right in a brown sweater is Elder Twitchell.  He has been very helpful to us in getting sim cards for our phones, he took us to Pretoria with him for a short adventure, he was the one at the orphanage and the refugee center who had all the kids clapping and dancing and playing games.
Sister Simmons trying to reach a treasure from unwrapping the saran ball!  Her husband, Cal Simmons, helped train us at the Auditing Department before our mission to Russia.  They are Church Employees here and will be here for four years.  He also came to Moscow to do more training!  Small world!!
Everyone brought a 'white elephant' gift to exchange - we passed them around the circle with Sister Cleverly reading "The Night Before Christmas" - adding several 'left' and 'right' - and you passed the gift you were holding accordingly!  At the end of the poem, everyone opened their gift!  fun!  Sister in red sweater to the right is Sister Sims, her husband to her right.  They arrived a few weeks before we did and have helped us a lot.  Next to them are Elder and Sister Parrish, they are Directors of Communications in both Africa South and Africa Central Areas.  They have a flat in Kenya when they go up there!  South and Central used to be together - until August of 2019.  Next are Elder and Sister Elggren,  he is the Executive Secretary to the Area Presidency - they are the leaders of the senior couples...and wonderful people.  Next are the Simmons and Forsyths - already noted.

Sister Perkins at the far right - she and Elder Perkins have a son who lives in Kate and Ben Mortensen's ward in Hyrum, Utah!  Their grandchildren attend the school Katie is a Speech Pathologist at in Nibley! Always "Do Your Best" and be kind - Granny said: You never know who you will meet on life's path!"

Senior Couples Give Thanks!

On Saturday, November 27th, all the senior couples got together for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner.  So much delicious food and great company!  We made stuffing, deviled eggs and pumpkin cheesecake for our contributions.  Room full of such great senior missionaries!!   Darling Lilly, sleeping on Thanksgiving Day - Sam wanted us to see her cute dress!!   The Mission sewing machine - passed around from senior sister to senior sister - I used it for a week and then it wouldn't work!  We are taking it to a shop for repairs and Elder Smith bought me a new one - Singer basic - Merry Christmas to me! Fun African fabric I found at a local shop - will make great bowl cozies!  We found these cows on the side of the road near our Chapel in Kwa Thema!!  There were these pretty yellow Lily's also on our drive to church.

Area Office

  Sunday October 31, Elder and Sister Elggren drove us to our assigned ward - the Kwa Thelma 2nd ward.  It was Stake Conference and both wards met together - great talks!  Wonderful to meet the people we will be serving on Sundays.  It is about a 40 minute drive from the city - delightful children. The Temple is right next to the Area Offices - all are in a park like setting - an old estate that the Church purchased. View from behind the temple. Our Self Reliance Office

  Brother Philip showing Elder Smith some of the places we have Pathway students.  He has traveled extensively all over the world. He is really a wonderful manager - his office is right next to ours.  This is a poster we have been working on - the senior couples will take it to their individual chapels this weekend and ask the Bishop/Branch President if they can post it on the bulletin board...hopefully! Elder Smith hard at work! Copy machine in the background - Display behind it...for projects. Sister Smith hardly working!!   Both of our desks - it is nice to be working on this mission together.
