Humanitarian Project

 

Our Humanitarian Mission Couple have an office next to ours.  They have helped us a lot - leaning the copy machine, enlarging a poster for us, etc.  This is a project that Sister Martin is very proud of.  When the first visited the hospital to observe their needs - they definitely wanted to help if possible.  At the bottom of this report - read that sometimes the hospital had to choose which baby to use the equipment they had.
The recipients of Humanitarian aid have to fill out an application and local sources are the best to fill the requirements - if possible.  The Church was able to provide 15 of the Vapotherm respiratory devices, and 10 of the Infusion pumps!
What an awesome project - pretty small but very important!  No more having to choose which infant is helped - now all of them can be!!

    We cannot even fathom that choice. Thank Heaven they don't have to choose which baby to treat.

  Sunday October 31, Elder and Sister Elggren drove us to our assigned ward - the Kwa Thelma 2nd ward.  It was Stake Conference and both wards met together - great talks!  Wonderful to meet the people we will be serving on Sundays.  It is about a 40 minute drive from the city - delightful children. The Temple is right next to the Area Offices - all are in a park like setting - an old estate that the Church purchased. View from behind the temple. Great granddaughter Clementine Jo Romberg - born December 29, 2023

Maddie and Dane had their little girl on December 29, 2023.  What a wonderful way to end the year!! Clementine Jo Romberg - 7 pounds, 21 inches - PERFECT! Maddie is wonder woman - she had the baby at home!  With a midwifes' help!  Yikes!!  She's tired. Beautiful - just from Heaven!!  Emily came over from Denver to be with them a week.  Then Kurt drove the rest over to pick her up and meet darling Clementine!

Happenings in South Africa

  There is a big African Trade Market called Irene's about 35 minutes away from Johannesburg.  It is open only twice a month - the first Saturday and last Saturday of each month.  Saturday, July 30, we invited the Candlands to go with us.  We found the Perkins and Watsons there and we all had a great time.  Here is Sister Watson and Elder Perkins enjoying lunch - see that big platter in front?   Elder Smith bought me an African Apron like these - this is the lady who makes them - they are reversible and I like the bright colors!   On our walks in the mornings we have noticed this plant budding and getter ready to bloom - this morning it was blooming!  The picture doesn't do it justice - it is bright orange!   This big Bird of Paradise plant is on the grounds of the first chapel built in Johannesburg.  The flowers are so pretty, and it's fun for us to know Heidi and Stefan have them in Hawaii!  I've sent postcards with...
